The Cubs trade reliever Bruce Sutter, the 1979 National League Cy Young Award winner to the Cardinals for 3B Ken Reitz, OF-1B Leon Durham

On December 9 1980 — The Chicago Cubs trade reliever Bruce Sutter, the 1979 National League Cy Young Award winner, to the Cardinals for 3B Ken Reitz, OF-1B Leon Durham, and a player to be named. Sutter will help the Cardinals win the 1982 World Series and during his 4 years in St. Louis he will finish in the top 5 for Cy Young voting 3 times, lead the league in saves 3 times and finish in the top 10 in MVP voting 3 times.

He will later be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Durham will become a very good player for the Cub’s and have 2 All-Star appearances but will be remembered for letting a ball go between his legs in the 1984 playoffs.
