The Detroit Tigers retire Hal Newhouser’s uniform number 16. Newhouser pitched 15 seasons for the Bengals and is the only pitcher to win back-to-back MVP awards, in 1944 and 1945. Following the festivities, the Tigerslose to Milwaukee, 11 – 7, as the Brewers come up with five runs in the 9th inning.
