Oakland is hoping to repeat the success of the proven player for prospects type of arrangement that netted them Haren and others in the past.

In a separate transaction, Arizona deals Jose Valverde, the major league saves leader, to the Astros to get reliever Chad Qualls, second baseman/outfielder Chris Burke, and righty Juan Gutierrez.
