On June 15, 1968 — The Phillies fire manager Gene Mauch and replace him with Bob Skinner, skipper of the team’s farm club in San Diego. due largely to his continued and escalating problems handling superstar Dick Allen. The Phillies were on string of six straight winning seasons, and were 27-27 at the time of his dismissal.
