On December 1, 1965 — The Pittsburgh Pirates acquire light-hitting outfielder Matty Alou from the San Francisco Giants for infielder Ozzie Virgil and pitcher Joe Gibbon. Alou batted only .231 for San Francisco in 1965, but will improve to a National League-leading .342 this season and have four straight seasons over .300.
