The Reds acquire pitchers Joey Jay and 3B Gene Freese both players will help propel Cincy to the 1961 World Series

On ,December 15 1960 — The Cincinnati Reds acquire pitchers Joey Jay and Juan Pizarro from the Braves for SS Roy McMillan and a player to be named later. Cincy then trades Pizarro and P Cal McLish to the White Sox for 3B Gene Freese. The two pitchers will win 24 games between them for the Sox in 1961, while Freese will have one good year in Cincinnati hitting 26 home runs and drive in 87 runs and Jay will win 21 games helping the Red’s become the surprise NL champs.

1912 – At Cleveland, the Red Sox lose an unusual doubleheader to the Cleveland Naps. Cleveland takes the lidlifter, 9 – 3, when the game is called on account of rain after five innings. The rain stops and the second game begins, only to be called after six innings because of darkness. The Naps win, 6 – 0.

September 19, 1912

1967 – Houston erupts for eight runs in the eighth to wallop the Phillies, 10-3. Rusty Staub has four RBIs. Bob Aspromonte slams a three-run shot and Jim Wynn has two hits in the decisive frame. Winning pitcher Mike Cuellar drills a run-scoring double to help his own cause.

May 2, 1967

The Cardinals beat the Reds, 3 – 0, as Ted Wilks (14-1) wins his 11th in a row. He will lose his next start, September 2 in Pittsburgh, 5 – 4.
