Royals set club record of 16 straight wins

 

On September 15, 1977 — At Kansas City, Al Cowens hits a walk off homerun vs Doug Bair in the 10th inning as the Royals set a club record of 16 straight wins as they defeated the A’s in ten innings in the nightcap of a doubleheader, 5 – 4. The Royals won the first game 7-6 again walking off in the 11th inning, Oakland’s Doug Bair took the loss in both games. 

In game one, Bair danced out of trouble in the 9th, after George Brett singled and then stole second and third, but was left stranded and again in the 10th, when the Royal’s loaded the bases with one out but could not score. His luck ran out in 11th when with one out Pete LaCock singled in Willie Wilson. 

The Royals, will finish with a 102-60 record and win the American League West,  Kansas City also had a 10-game win streak in July.
