Gwynn, who has struggled to stay on a major league roster since making his debut in 2006, joins the team for which his father, Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn, played his entire career and which retired his uniform number 19. Gerut revived his career with a solid season as the Padres’ centerfielder in 2008.
