The game was originally scheduled as the nitecap of a doubleheader on April 30th, but was halted by darkness after 9 innings deadlocked at 7 – 7. Rescheduled for August 10th, the contest was halted in the 7th with the score 1 – 1. Art Houtteman finally settles it with a 1 – 0, 12-inning win. Hoot Evers triples and scores on a single by Johnny Groth. The league leaders fail to cash in by losing the nitecap, 5 – 4, cutting their lead to a half game over New York and a game ahead of Boston.
