On May 24, 1973 — At Metropolitan Stadium, Minnesota Twins’ Bert Blyleven one-hits the Royals to win‚ 2 – 0. Ed Kirkpatrick’s bunt single in the 5th is the only hit on the day for the Royals.  As bad as this was, the bigger robbery could have been in the Cy Young voting. Blyleven by any metric was the best pitcher in the American league, his 9.7 WAR was the best of his career, amongst starters he had the best WHIP. ERA+ and shutouts with 9. He was .12 behind Jim Palmer, the award winner for the ERA title.
