On September 15, 1978 — The White Sox score five runs in the 10th inning to top the Mariners, 8 – 3, and win their first extra-inning game of the year. The Sox had lost their previous eight. With the victory, Chicago avoids becoming the first team in history not to win an extra-inning game.
