Tazawa took the place of veteran John Smoltz, who was designated for assignment earlier in the day after being roughed up in yesterdayā€™s 13 ā€“ 6 slugfest. Former Marlin teammates Josh Beckett and A.J. Burnett set the tone for the game by pitching 7 and 7 2/3 scoreless innings respectively. A-Rodā€™s home run, the first the third baseman has hit since July 19th, ends the five-hour and 33 minute marathon.
