On October 11, 1986 — Tom Gorman, a former National League umpire for 25 seasons and major league pitcher who appeared in four games with the Giants in 1939, suffers a fatal heart attack at his New Jersey home. The 67 year-old arbitrator will be buried in his umpire’s uniform, holding a ball and strike indicator in his hand showing the count to be 3 and 2.
