On October 29, 1969  – Tom Seaver, who won 25 games to help lead the New York Mets to one of the most unlikely World Championships in major league history, is voted the National League Cy Young Award winner. Seaver went 25-7 with a 2.21 ERA and had 208 strikeouts.

Seaver wins a near-unanimous vote, gaining 23 of 24 first-place votes. Phil Niekro who won 24 games picked up one first-place vote.
