Perhaps best known for the revolutionary surgical procedure that bears his name (first performed by Dr. Frank Jobe in 1974), John had a stellar career. He was a 4X All-Star, won 20 games 3X, and pitched 26 years (second only to Nolan Ryan). He also twice finished runner-up to the Cy Young Award (1977 to Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Steve Carlton & 1979 to Baltimore Orioles pitcher Mike Flanagan).

 

In his 26-year career (1963-1974, 1976-1989), Tommy had 288 wins (7th most in MLB history among LHP), 2,245 strikeouts, 46 shutouts, & 3.34 ERA.
