On April 11, 1928 — Ty Cobb and Tris Speaker both start on Opening Day for the Philadelphia A’s. The 8-3 loss to New York Yankees at Shibe Park marks the first time the future Hall of Famers have played as teammates in a game.

Cobb went 1-3 with 2 walks, Speaker went 0-4.

Cobb will hit .323 and retire at the end of the season. Speaker will hit ,267 and he will also retire at the end of 1928.
