On July 17, 1903, At Columbia Park. Rube Waddell is arrested and held on $600 bail for jumping into the stands after striking out the final batter, Roy Evans to assault a well-known ticket scalper and gambler, Maurice Blaw. Waddell had felt the St Louis Browns had encouraged Blaw to fill the stands along the first base with rowdy gamblers to try to get him off his game. They assaulted Waddell with foul language and beat a tin cup throughout the game.

Connie Mack bails him out of jail. Waddell however overcomes the taunting pitches a complete game picking up his 17th win vs 9 defeats on the season. He allows just 5 hits, strikes out 12, and walks 3 men.
