On September 14, 1969 — With more than two weeks left in the season, the Orioles clinch the first-ever American League East title when they beat Cleveland at Memorial Stadium, 7-3. The heavily-favored Birds will sweep Minnesota, the AL West Champs, to capture a pennant, but will lose the World Series in five games to the Amazin’ Mets.
