In a game in which the Braves become the first franchise to clinch six consecutive postseason berths, the team establishes a new major league record for grand slams. In the first inning of a 10-2 rout over New York, Ryan Klesko blasts the club’s twelfth four-run homer of the season, surpassing the mark set last year by both the Orioles and Mariners.

September 18, 1997

The Yankees outslug the Indians, 13 – 11, behind the slugging of Bill Skowron. Skowron follows a Yogi Berra blast with his second homer in the 8th, but Cleveland answers with two in the bottom of the 8th for an 11 – 8 lead. Moose then hits a bases-loaded double in the 9th to win it. Roger Maris hits his 30th home run and Jimmy Piersall homers for the Tribe.

1924 – Despite Babe Ruth’s two home runs, the Senators beat the Yankees 11 – 6 and move into first place. The Yankees will tie them for two days in September, but otherwise the Senators stay on top till the end.
