Third baseman Jim O’Rourke signs with the Buffalo Bisons

On February 25, 1881 — Third baseman Jim O’Rourke signs with the Buffalo Bisons after spending most of his career playing for the Boston Red Caps. He boasts that the contract is for $2,000, Buffalo puts the figure at $1,300.

The future Hall of Famer will hit .317 over 4 seasons for the Bisons. He will eventually leave Buffalo to play 8 seasons, the longest with any club of his career with the New York Giants.
