On , February 22, 1881– George Wright signs a contract to play for the Boston Red Caps which he states allows him not to travel with the team on western road trips, but just play in games played in New England and Troy, NY.  Wright will only play part-time in order to devote more time to his sporting goods business.

Wright sat out the 1880 season.
