Eddie Collins h Hero of the Battle as he steals six bases
On September 22, 1912 — At Sportsman’s Park against the St Louis Browns, Eddie Collins becomes the only player in major league history to steal six bases in one game for a second time. In the seventh inning, he stole second, third and home to complete the stole base cycle. Collins goes 4-5 in the 8-2 victory and steals the bases vs the batteries of (Pitchers) Mack Allison, Buddy Napier and Roy Mitchell, (c) Jim Stephens and Walt Alexander.
The Philadelphia Athletics’ second baseman’s feat of thievery has yet to be surpassed. It will be 79 years until another major leaguer, Otis Nixon, even ties Collins’ mark.
