On September 27, 1952 –The 20-year-old Boston Braves’ rookie third baseman Eddie Mathews hits 3 home runs as Boston breaks a 10-game losing streak and beats Brooklyn, 11 – 3. Virgil Jester wins, his last in the majors and the last victory for the Boston Braves franchise.

Mathews becomes the first rookie to hit three home runs in a game and today’s win will become the last victory for the National League franchise representing the city of Boston.
