Charlie Grimm and Rube Walker are named to the Chicago Cubs College of Coaches

 

 

On January 12 1961  – Charlie Grimm and Rube Walker are named to the Chicago Cubs College of Coaches. Using this system, a different coach will manage the team each month during the season, and members of the group will move between the major league team and its minor league affilitaes.

The Cubs will finish with a 64-90 record, a slight improvement over the previous year, but the following season the team will post the worst mark (59-103) in franchise history, finishing in ninth place, six games behind the new Houston club in the expanded National League.
