On June 22, 1970, Ted Kubiak, future Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson, and team captain Sal Bando hit back-to-back-to-back home runs for the Oakland A’s. The power barrage helps the A’s to a 7-3 win over the Minnesota Twins.
Rod Carew, batting .376 for the Twins, injures his right knee during an attempted double play when Milwaukee’s Mike Hegan slides into him. The injury will require surgery and sideline him until September. Harmon Killebrew’s 5th-inning homer with two on enables the Twins to beat the Brewers, 4 – 3, behind Jim Kaat.

Homers by Johnny Edwards and Bob Watson appear to put the game away but Atlanta makes a furious rally which ends only when Fred Gladding fans Bob Aspromonte with two aboard for the final out.
On June 20, 1970, future Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson of the Baltimore Orioles collects the 2,000th hit of his career- a 3-run homer off Washington’s Joe Coleman in the 5th inning. The drive snaps a 2 – 2 tie, and the Orioles hang on for a 5 – 4 victory. Robinson’s prowess at third…
1970 – At Candlestick Park, Giants legend Willie Mays (615) and Ernie Banks of the Cubs (504) both hit home runs making it the first time two big leaguers with 500 home runs do it in the same game.
On June 12, 1970, Dock Ellis of the Pittsburgh Pirates pitches a no-hitter despite giving up eight walks. The talented right-hander shuts down the San Diego Padres, 2-0, with help from Roberto Clemente and Bill Mazeroski, who each make terrific defensive plays. Ellis will later admit to pitching the game under the influence of LSD….
6/11/1970: Frank Howard was rained out of a 2 run homer in Kansas City. It came in the first inning off Bill Butler with 1 out. The game was called in the top of the second.
Vic Davalillo gets two hits during the seventh inning of the Cardinals’ 10-7 comeback victory over San Diego at Busch Stadium. The first of the Venezuelan outfielder’s two singles comes when he leads off the frame as a pinch hitter for Bob Gibson.
