On January 25, 1978, the San Diego Padres acquire well-traveled pitcher Gaylord Perry from the Texas Rangers. The Padres surrender pitcher Dave Tomlin and $125,000 in cash. Perry will win 21 games for the Padres in 1978 and capture the Cy Young Award.
