The Giants trade veteran 1B Al Oliver

On August 20, 1984 –The San Francisco Giants trade veteran 1B Al Oliver, whom they acquired from Montreal in February, and pitcher Renie Martin to the Phillies for P George Riley and minor leaguer Kelly Downs.

The rest of the ’84 season with the Phils (28 games, 100 PA), “Scoop” has a .312 BA & .360 OBP. However, he has zero home runs and only a .387 Slg. Pct. and is traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the offseason.
