Mariners’ third baseman Mike Blowers becomes the 13th player in major league history to hit grand slams in consecutive games. The fourth inning bases full round-tripper off Craig Lefferts contributes to Seattle’s 16-9 victory over Texas at Arlington Stadium.

Seattle P Randy Johnson hurls a one-hit, 7 – 0 victory over the Athletics. He loses his no-hitter when Lance Blankenship singles with one out in the 9th inning.

The Montreal Expos retire Rusty Staub’s uniform number 10 prior to the game with the Mets.

In Milwaukee, Cleveland starter Charles Nagy leaves the game with a shoulder injury after pitching to just two batters. Nagy will go on the disabled list in two days and undergo surgery on June 29th.

In the top of the seventh of a tied game at Philadelphia’s Veterans Stadium, Jay Bell leads off the inning by grounding out to Phillies’ shortstop Juan Bell. The Pirate infielder is rung up by, none other than, first base umpire Wally Bell.

The Rockies reach the 1,000,000 mark for attendance in their meeting with Atlanta. It is the fastest any team has gotten to the magic number (17 home dates). The Braves win the game, however, 12 – 7.
