P Danny Farquhar of the White Sox collapses in the dugout after pitching to four batters in the 6th inning against the Astros. He is rushed to hospital where doctors diagnose a brain aneurism.
Tyson Ross makes a bid to pitch the first no-hitter in the history of the Padres, keeping the Diamondbacks from getting a base hit until two are out in the game. Unfortunately, CF Franchy Cordero, who has accounted for the game’s only run until then with a massive homer in the 4th, mis-judges a very catchable fly ball by PH Christian Walker, and it falls in for a game-tying double. Ross then leaves the game, with nothing to show for his tremendous performance. Reliever Brad Hand records the last four outs without allowing another safety and gets credit for the 4 – 1 win after San Diego scores three runs in the top of the 9th.

2018 – Evan Gattis grounds into an embarrassing triple play in the 4th inning of Houston’s game against Seattle. With runners on first and second, Gattis grounds to 3B Kyle Seager who steps on the bag for the first out and throws to 2B Robinson Cano for the second out. However, Gattis thinks the inning is over and starts heading across the diamond to jog towards the dugout. Cano notices this and throws to 1B Dan Vogelbach, who tags Gattis as he realizes his mistake.

Patrick Corbin spins a gem for the Diamondbacks as he shuts out the Giants, 1 – 0, on a one-hitter. He keeps the Giants hitless until two are out in the 8th when Brandon Belt hits a squibbler to third base to defeat a defensive shift. The game is still scoreless at that point, but in the bottom of the inning, Arizona scores the only run it needs on a walk by Jarrod Dyson, a sacrifice bunt by Corbin and a single by David Peralta. It is Corbin’s first career shutout.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of their first ever game in Oakland, CA, the A’s stage a game featuring free admission to anyone registering in advance. The birthday party is a huge success as over 46,000 spectators show up at the Coliseum to see Oakland defeat the White Sox, 10 – 2.
Puerto Rican native Francisco Lindor hits an emotional two-run home run to lead the Indians to a 6 – 1 win over the Twins in the first game of a two-game series played at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The series is particularly important given the devastation wreaked on the island by Hurricane Maria last September.
