7/2/1908 – The Phillies were at the Polo Grounds to play the Giants. Mickey Doolan (listed as Doolin in contemporary sources) batted seventh and Red Dooin batted eighth. Doolan made the last out in the seventh inning but then came to the plate to start the eighth. Doolan grounded out and then umpire Cy Rigler was notified that he had batted out of turn. Rigler called Dooin out. Since Doolan had already made an out the Giants should have ignored the confusion.

April 2, 1971

Andy Pettitte earns his fourth win of the year against no losses in beating the Orioles, 7 – 5, but the veteran Yankees starter has to be removed from the game after only 77 pitches and undergoes an MRI on his left elbow. The test reveals no structural damage, but Pettitte will have to rest until the inflammation goes away. He will retire after this season, then come back in 2012.

Tom Glavine of the Braves is put on the disabled list for the first time during his 22-year career. The 42 year-old southpaw’s ailing right hamstring needs more time to heal before he goes after his 304th career win.
