At Dolphin Stadium, slugger Miguel Cabrera hits a three-run home run and has four RBI as the Florida Marlins beat the San Francisco Giants, 5 – 3. Cabrera leads the National League in batting average (.346) and doubles (21) and ranks in the top 10 in hits, RBI and total bases.

Craig Biggio ties Hank Aaron for ninth place on the major league career doubles list with his 624th in the Astros’ 6 – 3 victory over St. Louis. Biggio now has 2,850 hits, two more than Brooks Robinson for 40th place in the all-time list. Just yesterday, Biggio became the 23rd major leaguer to reach 10,000 at-bats.

Jose Castillo hits two home runs and finishes with a career-high six RBI to help Pittsburgh rout the Brewers, 12 – 1.

Vernon Wells hits three home runs for the first time in his career and Troy Glaus homers twice to lead the Toronto Blue Jays to an 8 – 5 victory over the Boston Red Sox. It’s the first time two Toronto players have had multi-homer games together since Carlos Delgado hit three and Raul Mondesi hit two on April 20, 2001, against Kansas City. Gustavo Chacin (6-1) is the winning pitcher, Josh Beckett (7-2) the loser.

Albert Pujols hits his 25th home run of the season, a three-run blast, in the St. Louis Cardinals’ 3 – 1 victory over the Houston Astros. Pujols becomes the third-fastest big-leaguer to 25 homers, reaching it in 51 games. Barry Bonds required 47 games in 2001 and Mark McGwire needed 50 in 1998. Pujols also increases his major league lead to 64 runs batted in.

Barry Bonds of the San Francisco Giants hits the 715th home run of his 21-year major league career to surpass Babe Ruth for sole possession of second place on the all-time list. Hank Aaron is the all-time leader with 755 home runs. Bonds connects on a 90-mph 3-2 fastball in the bottom of the 4th inning off Byung-Hyun Kim of the Colorado Rockiesbefore a near-capacity crowed at AT&T Park. Colorado wins the game, 6 – 3, as Kim becomes the 421st pitcher to surrender a home run to the 41-year-old slugger.

At Fenway Park, Curt Schilling becomes the 104th pitcher in major league history to reach 200 wins in the 6 – 4 triumph over Tampa Bay. Trot Nixon has three RBI, Mark Loretta goes 3 for 5 with an RBI, and Jonathan Papelbon notches his 18th save in as many opportunities, extending his major league record. Schilling becomes only the fourth pitcher to earn his 200th win while in a Red Sox uniform, joining Lefty Grove (1934), Ferguson Jenkins (1976) and Luis Tiant (1978).

Angel Berroa hits a three-run home run in the 8th, and the Kansas City Royals escape a jam in the bottom of the 9th after a near two-hour rain delay, edging the New York Yankees, 7 – 6, to halt a 13-game losing streak, and one of 14 games at Yankee Stadium since 2005. The Royals’ 19-game losing streak from July 28-August 19 last season was the only mark longer in franchise history. Reggie Sanders hits his 299th career home run for Kansas City. Derek Jeter gets his 2,000th career hit in the contest, becoming the eighth player in Yankees history to reach the milestone.

The Houston Astros steal seven bases, the most by any team in the majors in nearly four years, in an 8 – 5 loss to the Washington Nationals. The Astros, whose club record is eight stolen bases, last stole seven on April 13, 1999, against San Francisco. Florida was the last team in the majors to steal that many, on May 27, 2002, against the Mets. Washington third-string catcher Matt LeCroy is benched during the 7th inning after allowing the seven stolen bases and committing two errors. “If my daddy was managing this team, I’m sure he would have done the same thing”, LeCroy said.
