Two of the most highly-touted prospects in recent years win the Rookie of the Year Award in their respective leagues. 3B Kris Bryant of the Cubs is a unanimous winner in the National League, while SS Carlos Correa of the Astros wins it in a close race in the American League.

Commissioner Bud Selig announces Petco Park will be the site of the All-Star Game in 2016, making it the first time that the same league will play host in consecutive seasons since Pittsburgh’s PNC Park and San Francisco’s AT&T Park were the venues in 2006-07. The contest will mark the third Midsummer Classic held in San Diego, following 1978 and 1992 games played at Jack Murphy Stadium.

2015 – The Manager of the Year Award is handed out in the two major leagues; rookie skipper Dave Roberts of the Dodgers is the winner in the National League, while Terry Francona of the Indians is a second-time winner in the American League.

The Diamondbacks trade P Jeremy Hellickson to the Phillies for pitching prospect Sam McWilliams.

2015 – The Red Sox acquire closer Craig Kimbrel from San Diego for four prospects: OF Manuel Margot, SS Javy Guerra, IF Carlos Asuaje and P Logan Allen.

Winners of the Silver Slugger Awards are announced, with first-time winners dominating the squads, as there are five in the American League and four more in the National League. In contrast, C Brian McCann and 1B Miguel Cabrera both win the award for the 6th time.

The Braves trade slick-fielding SS Andrelton Simmons and minor league C Jose Briceno to the Angels in return for veteran SS Erick Aybar and pitching prospects Chris Ellis and Sean Newcomb, while the Mariners acquire reliever Joaquin Benoit from San Diego for minor leaguers Enyel De Los Santos and Nelson Ward.

2015 – The Yankees trade back-up C John Ryan Murphy to the Twins in return for athletic CF Aaron Hicks.

The Gold Glove Awards are announced, with C Salvador Perez, 1B Eric Hosmer and SS Alcides Escobar of the World Champion Royals headlining the American League winners. They are joined by 2B Jose Altuve, 3B Manny Machado, CF Kevin Kiermaier, RF Kole Calhoun and P Dallas Keuchel. LF Yoenis Cespedes wins the award even though he was traded to a National League team at the end of July. In the NL, winners are C Yadier Molina, 1B Paul Goldschmidt, 2B Dee Gordon, SS Brandon Crawford, 3B Nolan Arenado, LF Starling Marte, CF A.J. Pollock, RF Jason Heyward and P Zack Greinke.

P Matt Harvey of the Mets and 1B Prince Fielder of the Rangers receive the Comeback Player of the Year Award in their respective leagues. Both players helped lead their team to surprise division titles after missing all or most of the previous season because of injuries.
