5/19/1913 – The Yankees scored seven runs in the top of the eighth inning to beat the Browns, 8-6. In that inning Frank Chance ground out as a pinch hitter for the pitcher, Ray Fisher, who was in the ninth spot in the lineup. When the New Yorkers approached the bottom of the order again in the same inning, Chance hit in the eighth spot instead of shortstop Claud Derrick. This time Chance singled and knocked in two runs. St. Louis protested to umpire Hildebrand after the inning was over but he correctly told them that it was too late.
Wearing White Sox uniforms, the Reds are defeated by the Cubs, 7-2, at Chicago’s West Side Park. Cincinnati forgot to pack uniforms and had to don those worn by their opponents’ crosstown rivals.

1912 – The Reds trade outfielders Mike Mitchell and Pete Knisely, infielders Red Corriden and Art Phelan, and P Bert Humphries to the Cubs for C Harry Chapman, P Grover Lowdermilk, and SS Joe Tinker, who will manage the Reds for one year.
1912 – Boston Braves owner James Gaffney purchases the Allston Golf Club on Commonwealth Avenue with a plan to construct a ball park there. Ground breaking will commence on March 20, 1915.
