Notable Events and Chronology for Billy Herman Career
Billy Herman (1909-1992) played over 1,500 games at second base, mostly for the Cubs, and retired with a BA of .304. As a rookie in 1932 he appeared in all 154 games, collected 206 hits, and batted .314. Herman set a record for second basemen in 1935 with 57 doubles. He went on to lead NL second baseman in putouts 7X. After a decade with the Cubs, he was traded to the Dodgers where he teamed with shortstop Peewee Reese to help bring the NL pennant to Brooklyn for the first time in 21 years. Inducted to the Hall in 1975.
