July 9, 1969 Bob Elson and Red Rush, White Sox radio broadcasting team, have been forbidden to ride on the ball club’s chartered airplanes while the White Sox and their radio outlet, WMAQ, are involved in litigation, The Tribune learned yesterday.
General Manager Ed Short confirmed that the broadcasters had been told to make their own travel arrangements henceforth. explaining that Owner Arthur AUyn “on advice of attorneys” had informed Rush and Elson of the ban.
In action brought last year by the White Sox, WMAQ and NBC were named in a suit involving alleged nonfulfillment of contract. The tadio team, as well as the press, usually travels with the ball club, whose traveling secretary, Howard Roberts, handles the arrangements.
Only last month, WMAQ exercised its option on the existing contract and despite the suit, will carry (he White Sox games again next year.
