But the Dodgers play the game under protest after a 6th inning run by Doug Baird is allowed by umpire Rigler. the baserunner Baird passed 3B ‚reverses himself to head for 2B‚ reverses again and scores by cutting across the diamond. The NL will uphold the protest‚ erasing today’s game and Zach Wheat’s 0-for-5 at the plate. This‚ plus the Reds’ protested game of April 29‚ will give Wheat the batting title over Edd Roush .335 to .333.
