Facing Wes Ferrell in Boston, Hank Greenberg hits a long centerfield home run out of Fenway Park. It exits to the right of the flag pole and is called the longest home run ever hit at Fenway. Gee Walker has three hits to run his hitting streak to 26 straight games, but the Red Sox counter with 14 hits of their own to win, 11 – 9. Walker’s streak will end on the 24th after 27 games.
At Comiskey Park, 21 year-old rookie Rookie Joe DiMaggio ties three major-league records in New York’s 10-run 5th inning against the White Sox, hitting 2 home runs for 8 total bases. With 2 doubles, he equals the modern record of four long hits in a game. New York beats St. Louis, 18 – 4. He becomes the first Yankee and fifth player in major league history to hit two home runs in one inning.

The 30 year-old first baseman’s mark will not be broken until Howard Johnson goes deep from both sides of the plate 36 times in 1987 for the Mets.
At Griffith Stadium in Washington, D. C., Yankees legend Babe Ruth hits his 659th and final home run wearing pinstripes. The ‘Bambino’ had 49 homers with the Red Sox prior to coming to New York and will add six additional round-trippers with the Braves before retiring next season.
