In his hometown of Waterbury, Connecticut, Roger Connor is honored with a four-foot-high marble monument at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. The gravestone, which also includes the names of his wife and grandson, notes that the one-time all-time home run leader is a member of baseball’s Hall of Fame.

Oakland defeats Texas, 15 – 4, as SS Miguel Tejada hits three home runs and a single and drives home eight runs. Tejada had gone 26 games without a homer before hitting a grand slam in the 1st, followed by a three-run shot in the 2nd. He adds a solo blast in the 9th. Erik Hiljus is the benefactor, winning his first major league decision. Hiljus also strikes out four batters in the 7th.

The Cubs defeat the Reds, 7 – 1 behind Jose Acevedo’s first major league win. Cincinnati OF Dmitri Young gets four hits for the second straight game, giving him nine consecutive safeties.

The Royals slug the Indians, 5 – 3, scoring all their runs on four 4th-inning home runs.

The Reds defeat the Cubs, 5 – 2, as OF Alex Ochoa gets five hits, including a home run, for Cincinnati. OF Dmitri Young adds four hits.

On June 27, 2001 The Braves bump the slumping Phillies out of first place in the NL East with a 10 – 4 win over them. The Phils were 35-18 on June 1, and led the Braves by eight games before starting their tumble. Chipper Jones drives in three runs and Odalis Perez allows two earned runs.
