Pedroia a fantastic opening day player, has hit in 9 straight opening days, the first Red sox player in 100 years to accomplish that. He is 13-33 all-time on opening days. The Red Sox won 8-0 over the Philadelphia Phillies and Hanley Ramirez and Mookie Betts also homered for the Red Sox. Clay Buchholtz tossed a 3 hitter. Betts at 22, was the youngest leadoff hitter for the Red sox since Rico Petrocelli in 1965.

It was Pedroia’s first multiple home run game in 4 years, his last was in 2011. Pedroia had been battling injuries the last 3 years.
