The Chicago first baseman accomplishes the feat off three different Buc hurlers, going deep off Lino Donoso in the first, connecting in the fourth off Max Surkont, and adding a two-run blast in the eighth off Dick Littlefield to give the team the lead for good.

The Yankees outslug the Indians, 13 – 11, behind the slugging of Bill Skowron. Skowron follows a Yogi Berra blast with his second homer in the 8th, but Cleveland answers with two in the bottom of the 8th for an 11 – 8 lead. Moose then hits a bases-loaded double in the 9th to win it. Roger Maris hits his 30th home run and Jimmy Piersall homers for the Tribe.

The Reds pound the Padres, 13 – 1, thanks to seven home runs, five of them off starter Tim Stauffer. Miguel Cairo and Ryan Hanigan both hit two homers, and Jay Bruce, Joey Votto and Todd Frazier also go deep. For Cairo, it is a first multi-homer game in a 16-year career. The seven homers tie a Reds franchise record.

Vin Scully is back in the broadcast booth for a record 63rd season after missing a week with a bad cold, as the Dodgers improve their major league-best record to 9-1 with a 5 – 4 win over the Padres. The Dodgers turn a strange triple play in the top of the 9th, when C A.J. Ellis picks up Jesus Guzman’s short bunt with runners on first and second base. Somehow, the Padres think that home plate umpire Dale Scott called the ball foul and do not run, being easy pickings for Ellis, who relays to Juan Uribe at third base to start the triple killing. San Diego manager Bud Black comes out to argue vehemently, but only succeeds in getting himself tossed from the game. In the bottom of the inning, Dee Gordon hits a bases-loaded single off Brad Brach to give Los Angeles the walk-off win.
