On April 13, 1970 — In their home opener at the Oakland Coliseum, a 2-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers, the Oakland A’s use gold-colored bases. This colorful innovation was introduced by team owner Charlie O. Finley.  After the game, the commissioner, Bowie Kuhn, office will order Finley to get rid of the colored bases and use standard white bases.
