Mariner Ken Griffey Jr. joins Babe Ruth, Ralph Kiner, Duke Snider, Ernie Banks, Harmon Killebrew, and Mark McGwire as the only players to hit 40 homers in four consecutive seasons.

On August 24, 1999 — At Safeco Field, Seattle Mariner Ken Griffey Jr. joins Babe Ruth, Ralph Kiner, Duke Snider, Ernie Banks, Harmon Killebrew, and Mark McGwire as the only players to hit 40 homers in four consecutive seasons.

Griffey hit number 40 in the 3rd inning off Tiger hurler, Willie Blair and took Blair deep again in the 5th. The Mariners will win the game 5-0, Freddy Garcia fired the shutout for the Mariners.  He will hit 48 for the season. After the season he will be traded to the Red’s.
