On August 1, 1945, At the Polo Grounds, Mel Ott of the New York Giants rips the 500th home run of his career in the 3rd inning off Boston Braves pitcher Johnny Hutchings in the Giants’ 9-2 victory. Ott joined Babe Ruth and Jimmie Foxx as the only players at the time in reaching the career milestone. He will finish his career with 511 home runs.
