On December 11, 1959, the New York Yankees acquire Roger Maris and two other players from the Kansas City Aās for outfielders Hank Bauer and Norm Siebern, first baseman Marv Throneberry, and pitcher Don Larsen.
Previously the Pirates reject their offer to exchange Dick Groat for Roger Maris, the Aās, prohibited from trading the slugging outfielder to the Yankees for 18 months after obtaining him from the Indians on June 15, 1958. The year-and-a-half moratorium on the potential trade was put in place to alleviate the perception that Kansas City was serving as a ābig leagueā farm club for the Bronx Bombers.
Maris will hit 100 home runs over the next two seasons, including setting the MLB record with 61 homeruns in 1961.
