On June 21, 1927, At Forbes Field Paul Waner of the Pittsburgh Pirates ends his 23-game hitting streak, a day after his extra-base hit streak was stopped at 14 games to set a National League record. Dolf Luque and Carl Mays halt the streak in a 7-6 Cincinnati Red win. Waner still walked, scored a run, and drove in a run in the defeat. At the height of the streak, he brought his average up to .396.

Waner, just in his second season, will lead the NL with a .380 batting average, 237 hits, and 131 RBI. His brother Lloyd will gather 223 hits for a .355 BA in his rookie year. The Waners pace the 1927 Pirates to a team BA of .305.

The Cardinals win a wild game over the Marlins, 8 – 7, thanks to a two-run rally in the top of the 10th. Matheny is forced to remove Allen Craig from the game, because his spot is now occupied by new pitcher Victor Marte, while Tony Cruz, the last position player remaining on the bench, comes in to play first base. As a result of the confusion, Matheny needs to use rookie pitcher Joe Kelly to bat for Marte in the 10th, but he surprises everyone by beating out a bases-loaded infield single to put the Cardinals up, 8 – 6. Miami manages to claw back one run off Jason Motte in the bottom of the 10th, but still comes up short.
