On March 21, 1962, the Philadelphia Phillies retire Robin Roberts’ uniform number.

The ceremony took place At a cocktail party following a spring training game, the Philadelphia Phillies retire legendary franchise pitcher Robin Roberts’ uniform #36.

Roberts was one of the best pitchers in Phillies team history. In his 14 years with the Phillies (1948-1961), He had 234 wins (2nd in franchise history), 1,871 strikeouts (2nd), 35 shutouts (3rd), & 3.46 ERA. Robin was also one of the best pitchers of the 1950s, winning 20 games six straight years in the decade. He was a key player on the 1950 NL Pennant winning Whiz Kids and was a 7X All-Star in the 50s. He is the first Phillies player in franchise history to have his uniform number retired.
