Ryan Zimmerman joines 3 other Senators with hit streaks of 25 or more

On May 7, 2009, Ryan Zimmerman joins Sam Rice (1920, 1924, 1930), Heinie Manush (twice in 1933), and Goose Goslin (1928) in becoming only the fourth player in Washington D.C. baseball history to have a consecutive hit streak of 25 games or more. The 24 year-old third baseman kept his streak intact with a first inning single off Randy Wolf in the Nationals’ 11-9 victory over LA at Chavez Ravine.

Gino Cimoli, Wayne Causey, and Billy Bryan of the Athletics hit consecutive home runs in the 7th inning, but Elston Howard has two home runs and eight RBIs; Bill Skowron, a home run and four RBIs; Mickey Mantle, a grand slam and seven RBIs, and Skowron four RBIs as the Yankees rout the A’s, 21 – 7. Mantle adds two stolen bases before Jack Reed takes over in CF and has two at bats.

August 19, 1962

In the 2-1 victory over the Nationals, Jorge Cantu goes deep in the fourth inning, making the Marlins the first team in big league history to have four infielders hit 25 home runs in the same season. The Florida third baseman joins first baseman Mike Jacobs (32), second baseman Dan Uggla (30), and shortstop Hanley Ramirez (29) in accounting for 116 of the Fish’s 188 big flies this year.
