On December 22, 1948 Steve Garvey is Born in Tampa, Florida to parents who had recently relocated from Long Island, New York, from 1956 to 1961, Garvey was a bat boy for the Brooklyn Dodgers, New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers during spring training.

He was a 10X All-Star, won 4 Gold Glove Awards, won the 1974 NL MVP Award, won 2 NLCS MVP Awards (1978, 1984), and was a member of the 1981 World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers. His uniform #6 is retired by the San Diego Padres.
