Indian first baseman Joe Carter, swiping his career-high 30th base, becomes the tenth major leaguer to hit 30 home runs and to steal 30 bases in the same season. Although the feat had been accomplished only 11 times prior to this year, four players, including Mets teammates Howard Johnson and Darryl Strawberry along with A’s slugger Jose Canseco, become the newest members of the 30/30 club this season.
