The Dodgers’ Andre Ethier extends his hitting streak to 21 games with an RBI single in a five-run 1st inning as Los Angeles beats the Cubs, 7 – 3.

The Braves complete their first sweep of the Giants in San Francisco since 1998 with a 9 – 6 win in 10 innings. Nate McLouth hits a two-run single off Brian Wilson to place the Braves ahead. Atlanta also beat last postseason’s heroes, Tim Lincecum and Madison Bumgarner, during the three-game series.

Roy Halladay strikes out a career-high 14 batters in a 3 – 1 win over the Padres. The Phillies ace shows some fatigue in the 9th and newly-minted closer Antonio Bastardo picks up the save, with regular closer Brad Lidge and his understudy Jose Contreras both on the disabled list.

The homer-happy Yankees are at it again, connecting five times in a 15 – 3 win over the Orioles. Russell Martin goes deep twice and is joined by Jorge Posada, Brett Gardner and Alex Rodriguez, who hits a grand slam. It is the 22nd slam of A-Rod’s career, moving him past the provisionally retired Manny Ramirez and into second place on the all-time list, one behind Lou Gehrig. CC Sabathia picks up his first win of the year, while Brad Bergesen is the loser.

Daisuke Matsuzaka holds the Angels to an infield hit over eight innings while striking out nine as the Red Sox win, 5 – 0, their fourth straight win after an awful start to the season.

The Marlins’ Anibal Sanchez comes close to throwing the second no-hitter of his career, beating the Rockies, 4 – 1. The Rockies’ lone run, which scores on a walk and a two-base error in the 1st, is unearned; Dexter Fowleris the only batter to get a hit off Sanchez with a 9th-inning single. Sanchez, who pitched a no-hitter in 2006, strikes out a career-high 9 batters in the one-hitter.
